Apostolic Activities
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and Of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age” (Mt. 28:19-20).The goal of our apostolate is to prepare all men to know Jesus Christ, who is “the way and the truth and the life” (Jn.14:6), and to be reborn in Christ; so that they become worthy of the Kingdom prepared for them from the foundation of the world (Mt.25:34). Our Lord Jesus Christ who came “in search of the one that went astray” (Mt.18-12), “to call sinners” (Mt. 9:13), became one like unto us in everything except sin. “He took our infirmities and bore our deceases” (Mt.8:17). We should use all our abilities and activities “to make ready for the lord and his Kingdom a people prepared” (Lk.1:17, Mt. 25:13). It is the love of God, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth” (1Tim.2:4), that gives us the vigour of our missionary dynamism. Our love for Christ urges us on (2Cor 5:14) “to lay down our lives” (jn.10:11) for those entrusted to our care.

Consecrated more intimately to God’s service and to the good of the Church, we are obliged in a special manner to engage in the missionary work of the Church in accordance with the charism of our Congregation. In Eastern monastic tradition the whole of our religious life should be permeated with missionary life, with the spirit of religious life. Our apostolic activities manifest the charism of our Congregation.

The following are the activities of our Congregation, which manifest our charism:
1) Preaching the Gospel, Conducting Retreats, Teaching Catechism and giving Spiritual Instructions for the Renewal of the Church. Through the preaching of the Gospel, retreats, catechetical and spiritual instruction and, above all, by helping the faithful to meaningful participation in the liturgical life of the Church, our founder Mar Ivanios brought about the renewal of the Malankara Church.

2) Ecumenical activities and inter-religious Dialogue
The hope that one day all those who call upon the name of Lord Jesus Christ will be united in his love is an essential character of the Bethanian spirituality. Historically, it is part of our inherited spirituality and obligation that we foster unity among the Churches of the West Syrian tradition in India. A Bethanian esteems the process of inculturation and dialogue with all men of goodwill in our mother country.

3) Mission and Parish Activities taken up according to the needs of the Malankara Church
Malankara Catholic Church born into the bosom of Bethany was nurtured by it. Bethany is particularly committed to its growth and keeps on contributing to the life and needs of the Malankara Church wherever it is found.

4) Missionary activities aimed at Evangelization of India
Keeping in mind the great vision of Mar Ivanios for the evangelization of India, we need to imbibe the religious and cultural values that are dear to the soul of India.

5) Apostolic Activities undertaken According to the need of the Universal Church
With the commitment to a particular Church we are committing ourselves to the church of Christ. We must feel one with the Universal Church, and make ourselves available to it as and when called upon to do so.

6) Social Apostolate
The aim of all our social apostolic activities is the integral development of the human personality. In our efforts to promote the dignity of the human person, the values of the Kingdom of God like justice, freedom, love, equality and peace, are to be safeguarded with prophetic earnestness.

7) Apostolate through Communication Media
For the integrated development of the human personality the modern means of communication for educating the masses and for diffusing human and religious values must be made use of. They enrich man and prepare him for accepting the values of the Kingdom of God.

8) Educational Activities
We co-operate with the existing system of education to promote qualitative improvements in the methods of education, and thus make it an effective instrument of changing the society. By engaging ourselves in the apostolate of education, we are helping the young people in making sound moral judgment based on a well informed conscience.
